FAQs: Answers to top 10 questions about my mask

  1. I wear a filtered breathing mask to avoid (as much as possible) inhaling corn. It’s especially helpful around vehicle exhaust, gunpowder (e.g. fireworks) and during corn tassling/ harvesting season.
  2. I buy mine from vogmask.com
  3. According to the company: Vogmask provides protection from airborne particles such as PM 0.3, PM 2.5, PM 10, dust, allergens, post combustion particles, germs, shavings, biologics, mold, mold spores, particles in wildfire smoke, volcanic particulate pollution, and other airborne contaminants… These highly efficient filtering masks help protect from particles as small as .254 microns.
  4. Unfortunately, I can still “ingest” corn by absorbing through my skin and getting it in my eyes.
  5. I can still catch a whiff of strong scents/ fragrances (e.g. donut shop, industrial cleaning solvent).
  6. It gets hot inside from my breath and can make my face sweat. If I wear it long enough my skin will break out a little bit.
  7. The filter becomes obsolete within 3 years after it’s made but when exposed to extremely poor air quality, a new on is recommended every 5-6 months. I replace mine each year.
  8. It’s difficult to breathe hard and/or fast with my mask on, especially if it’s due to be replaced.
  9. I should wear it in stores but I don’t because I’m vain and peoples’ reactions to it stress me out.
  10. Wearing a mask garners suspicion from security guards, especially if I’m by myself, interest from a demographic likely to protest/ demonstrate (just an observation– don’t shoot the messenger) and instills fear in small children and tourists.
